Have you done renovation projects with your spouse?

Two houses and seven renovation projects later and it’s safe to say that we are ready to slow things down a bit … but who knows what the future might hold, right? To be honest, renovations spark creativity over here and we had a lot of fun with colour and Sico Paints this time around!

We love brainstorming and coming up with ideas for new renovation projects, guys it might actually be one of our favourite past-times! But let’s be real about this for a second, renovating major spaces in your home (like your main bathroom … with the only bathtub in the house) can be so challenging with three little kids and very little sleep! Yup, we had a few 1:00am renovation dates and those didn’t always go so smoothly.

So, I’ve decided to share some of the things that helped us get through these renovations and come out still kind of liking each other in the end lol.

  1. Compromise: It took us a long time to make decisions on this space… placement of tub, shower etc. but we made sure to talk it through. The same goes for choosing a paint colour. I was ready to go all pink, but we found a common ground with colour and I couldn’t be happier with our decisions.
  2. Ask for Help: We have three little kids, so we realized right away that this meant we would need some help with the actual renovations (thank you so much Grandpa, you are always there to lend a hand) and help with the kids (thank you to all the grandparents for being there for us… alway xoxo)
  3. Think of the Future: while we may not want to live in this home forever, we aren’t really sure about the whole “forever home concept,” we made sure to think of the near and distant future when planning out the space… hence the soft colour tones that the boys and girls would both enjoy and the last minute decision to add a double sink because … well there are a lot of us sharing this space (it’s the only full bathroom  for five people so functionality was a priority)

If you and your spouse do a lot of home reno projects I’d love to hear some of your tips for making them go as smoothly as possible …especially with little ones.

Please share below xo

Ps … I can’t wait to share our final results with all of you soon! Stay tuned.
