How to Practice Self-Care for New and Expecting Moms

Aug 18, 2016

Let’s face it, we all have our days, days where everything seems to be falling apart and you can barely peel yourself off the couch. These days happened before I became a mother and they happen even more after motherhood. And while it’s not possible to have great days everyday, I am starting to … More How to Practice Self-Care for New and Expecting Moms

Summer Mini Getaway: Prince Edward County

Aug 12, 2016

It’s become a bit of trend to do this thing called a “baby moon” and as someone who loves to vacation, I’ll pretty much use any excuse to get away. A couple of weeks ago, my husband and I did just that, we went on a little getaway. The trip to Prince Edward County was … More Summer Mini Getaway: Prince Edward County

Aug 5, 2016

It’s so amazing when you can literally walk out into your backyard and find inspiration in the garden. I think that’s one of the many things that make this time of year so special, especially for someone who loves food as much as I do. We have an abundance of cucumbers this year … More Josephine’s Cool Mint & Cucumber Water

“When you love what you have, you have everything you need.” . Happy Love Day! 💕 I’m so excited that “The Love Your Life Project” went live on the blog today! . . The idea of this project is to use this space for good. So instead of focusing on what our homes or our lives are missing, I am going to start celebrating the things that we already have. . . Would Love for You to Join In! . I invite you to take part each week and post a picture of one thing in your life that you love and share why that is something you love about your life. Would love to hear the stories behind the pics too! Oh man, my school teacher project voice is coming through lol. I guess it is a project so ... 😂 . I’m going to use the hashtag #loveyourlifeproject for this and invite you to share your photos using this as well. I’m planning to start on Monday! Can’t wait to get started and share with all of you. . . Head on over to the blog for more details on this. Chatting about it in my stories as well 💕 . . Xo Vanessa . . . #momtruth #sharethelove #sharetheeverymom
Valentines when you have three kids = a stolen kiss during nap time. 💕 . . Me to My Husband thinking he would laugh at me: “I think I’m going to start a “Love Your Life Project” so I can really enjoy things, in the moment, the way that they are and maybe I won’t keep moving furniture around lol. But I will probably still move furniture around My Husband: “That’s a great idea!” Me: “Really? …OK I will . . . So I’ve decided to start something called the Love Your Life Project and thought Valentine’s Day would be the perfect day to kick this off! The Love Your Life Project stems from Neil Barringham’s idea that the “grass really is greener where you water it;”; that when you take a step back and look at the life you have and begin to appreciate the people and things around you, you will start to Love your life just as it is. . . The thing is, we are constantly looking at other people’s lives these days (thank you Instagram/ Pinterest) and that can sometimes have a negative impact. The internet is a big, beautiful and dark scary beast that can connect us and bring us joy, but also strips us of our ability to live and love our lives in the moment; as they are. Perfectly imperfect. We are constantly being pulled out of our own lives and into someone else’s. And while I find that this can be wonderful, there are so many beautiful and inspiring things online, it can also take away from the joy we can find in our own lives. . . So... The Plan: I am going to share one thing, each week that I love about our life. The little things, the big things and the things that get me out of bed in the morning. Yup, this started as something that got me up one morning when I was feeling tired and uninspired, so why not use it to help us start our day or our week right! . . Would Love for You to Join In! . I invite you to take part each week and post a picture of one thing in your life that you love. …I’m going to use #loveyourlifeproject for this and invite you to share your photos using this as well. . . Let’s use these online spaces to celebrate one another and Love our Lives! #loveyourlifeproject . . . Read the story of what sparked this project on the blog. . Happy Love Day
It’s this sweet boy’s “real birthday” today and mommy still can’t believe you’re already four! . . . . . Your smile can light up the whole room (that dimple 💙) . You are wild, curious and love an adventure! . And ...You are so caring ( you know just when someone needs a hug even at this young age). . . Happy birthday big boy! We love you so much ! Xo . . #momtruth #fouryearsold
We’ve got some pretty exciting news over on the blog today! . But the faces in this pic might be funny enough for me lol. . . Our Two-Year-Old: Mom gave me these stars hehe!!!! . . Our Four-Year-Old: Star power will keep away the t-Rex 🦖 grrr . . Our Five-Month-Old: mom, honestly it’s nap time why are we celebrating 🙈and dad ...hurry up and take the pic so I can sleep 😴 . . . But, in all honesty I’m so excited to share this news with all of you as well as some of the answers to the “how do you do it?” Questions about being a “mommy blogger”. Head on over to read the full post. Read to the bottom to find out more! (Link in bio)💕 . . . #momtruth
“Mama you have earrings on? Mama you have bracelets? Mama you so cute.” . . Me realizing my mascara is all over our two-year-old’s face: “Are you wearing mommy’s make up again? Are you rocking the diaper and no pants look? You’re so cute!” . . . They maybe little, but they notice everything. Xo . #momtruth
I’m going to be brave for a minute and share something... . . . Nursing in public has only recently become something I feel comfortable doing and to be completely honest... when our first was born none of this came easily for me... especially not nursing. I struggled for a while trying to get our oldest to nurse, we spent time with him in the NICU and getting him to eat at all was so hard. I learned very early on that #fedisbest and that even though there are a million outside pressures on mothers we need to be kinder to ourselves, to realize that mom shaming or thinking one way of parenting is better than another is far from ok. I’ve learned that being supportive rather than passing judgment can go a long way and that even if your views don’t entirely line up with someone else’s it doesn’t mean one is more “right”. . . So as we start this new week, this new month and move further into this new year, I want to focus on the positive things that I can share: . . 1. Some things do get easier with time. Nursing, while it took me a while to get the hang of it, really is a great experience for me now. . . 2.A great nursing bra goes a long way! This French Terry Scoop Back Nursing & Sleep Bra from @kindredbravely is a new favourite. It’s soft and so comfy and man does that make a huge difference. . . 3. Being kind to other moms can make a difference, you never know what someone else is going through and that one smile or laugh could change that mama’s day. . . 4. Break out of your comfort zone. For me it was small things like nursing while we are out for the day (this gave me so much freedom). Or going on a walk with all three littles on my own. Being brave can mean taking baby steps. . . What’s one thing that you did that made you feel brave as a new mom ? I’d love to hear. . . .
