Home Away from Home: Our Stay at The Edward PEC

IMG_4917

We were comfortable, we were together and everyone actually slept!

You know that feeling you get from waking up in your own bed, the calmness of waking up to the wind, we actually felt that way while we were away and it was amazing! Let’s not kid ourselves here, travelling with little ones is tough; like maybe we shouldn’t have planned this, what were we thinking… this is nuts, as you pull out of the driveway kind of tough. But once you’re there and everyone is together enjoying each other and slowing down, it’s so worth it!

Our stay at The Edward PEC actually felt like we were staying at our home away from home, with the added bonus of beautiful breakfasts and coffee being made for us each morning. From the moment we arrived, we felt welcome and taken care of. From the small details like bringing us fresh cool water to the room, to making sure our space was baby proofed and baby friendly (something that we’ve never had before at any hotel) we felt like we always had everything we needed and more!IMG_4729

The Edward is a Cape Cod style Bed and Breakfast on 75 acres of peaceful natural surrounding in Prince Edward County, Ontario. Nestled in its own little oasis off the beaten road, this is the perfect place for a restful weekend retreat. The interior of the house is a blend of modern and vintage styles that come together to create a fun, beatiful and simple space. It’s close enough to great beaches, adorable shops,  amazing restaurants, breweries and wineries, but also tucked away enough that you can hear the sounds of summer stillness (crickets and the wind) each evening.  IMG_4804IMG_4681

IMG_4833Every morning fresh French-pressed coffee and a variety of breakfast options and snacks were ready for us! This part is delightful and I secretly wish someone made me fresh coffee and a hot home-made breakfast everyday… hint if you’re reading this, live with me and are old enough to make coffee, I would love that tomorrow!  Some of our breakfast favourites included; the homemade bread, granola and muffins. Our toddler was also a huge fan of the crepes as well!IMG_4842

Based on the blog, you can probably tell that we are big fans of The County (Prince Edward County) and the owners of The Edward were able to give us some great “local insight” during our stay. As a result,  we found some beautiful hidden gems! These are a few of our new favourites:

Food

The Inn (Lake on the Mountain)

IMG_4690Our first night at The Edward we ate at The Inn, which is part of The Lake on the Mountain resort. The food was fresh, local and delicious. From county made cheeses to house made soups and meat pies, we were all happy with our meals. This is just a three-five minute drive up the road from The Edward.

The Miller House (Lake on the Mountain)

IMG_4685Directly across the street from The Inn, this café has a smaller menu (mainly apps .. but equally as delicious and local), but it boasts one of the most breathtaking views in the county! I felt like we were in Europe and looking out at the ocean. It was the best way to end our vacation!

The Courage Bar

One of the nights we went into Wellington for dinner and were so happy that we did! The Courage Bar, with its eclectic design and fun 90’s playlists is an awesome place to hangout, and the food … well, it was incredible! We tried the geography themes chicken wings and they were so good! I probably could have had my own plate, but we shared! Next time, we need to get at least two orders.

The Beach

Amazing UV Blanket from Luv Bug!

Sandbanks Provincial park is one of Ontario’s gems! The water is breathtaking and the sand dunes make for some fun water and land adventures with little ones. Going to the beach with my family as a kid is something that I will remember forever and we wanted to make sure we started a similar tradition with the boys. Beach days were the best days while we were in the county!

Shops

There are so many adorable shops in the towns that make up the county that I couldn’t even begin to list them all. We love antiques and little treasures so The County is perfect for us. We found some amazing antique pieces for our new home while we were there and I can’t wait to share them with you!

The County Collective

On our way home I popped in to The County Collective and I am so happy I did! This shop is adorable and I found a beautiful map of The County (that will make it’s way on to our gallery wall soon) and a fun playmat for the boys!

Overall, we are honestly so happy with our stay at The Edward, the owners; Rebecca, Jessica, Manolis & Payam made us feel like family (we even hung out together and had some wine and cheese one evening after the kids went to sleep) and gave us so many amazing local recommendations! We can’t wait to visit again!

IMG_4805If you’re looking for a place to relax, slow-down and live simple for a bit, this is the perfect spot. We love The County and now that we’ve stayed at The Edward, we love it even more!
