Simple Self-Care Series: Weekly Face Masks a Banish Review

IMG_2999“Sit down mama … eat apple mama … have bath mama. Play outside mama, go walk.” If only I took my toddler’s advice more often, I think my body and mind would thank me for it.

After the birth of my youngest, life started to become very busy. Failed attempts at co-ordinating naps, chasing a toddler and trying to nurse a newborn as well as some late bedtimes for babies meant very little me time. Self-care was something I just wasn’t doing, at all. Then life got even crazier as we bought a new house and began to sell our old one. Well my body just wasn’t having this and I got pretty sick with a cold, the kind of cold that really knocks you down (the I need to stop everything and rest kind of cold). So I stopped rushing around for about a week and rested. I took baths, napped when my kids napped, tried some brand new facemasks, and read whole book! That never happens to me by the way, I’m such a slow reader. By the end of this I began to feel a lot better. A week of self-care and a lot of rest really did make a huge difference. So I’ve, decided to make simple self-care a part of my weekly routine and I’m going to share a few of my favourite self-care practices and products with all of you. I’m starting the self-care series off with something super simple, weekly face masks.

IMG_2989Taking the time once or twice a week to do a facemask gives me a chance to relax and unwind at the end of the day. I love to put one on right before a bath or while I’m watching one of my favourite shows. There are two masks from Banish that I really like: the Activated Charcoal Clay Masque and the Pumpkin Enzyme Masque.

 Banish Activated Charcoal Clay Masque

IMG_2986I’ve been looking for a charcoal masque for a little while now and I’m excited to have finally found one. As someone who has oily and dry skin, I’m always looking for something to help brighten my skin and give it a glow. This clay mask is such an easy way to give yourself that midweek boost especially if you feel like your looking tired. Simply mix the charcoal powder with some water until it makes a paste, apply a layer onto your face and keep it on until it hardens. My face always feels refreshed after using this mask.

 Banish Pumpkin Enzyme Masque

IMG_2977This mask works to exfoliate your skin. I like to go back and forth between the masks using them each once a week. This mask is so easy to use as well; just spread a thin layer on, let dry and wash off. I love exfoliating my face once a week to help get rid of dead skin. This mask also contains vitamin C and Beta-Carotene which are great for reducing the look of fine lines.

Banish Oil (Vitamin C Serum)

IMG_2979After a mask, or in the evenings after I’ve washed my make-up off, I like to apply a lotion or serum to give my skin some extra moisture. This serum from Banish is perfect for that. Just apply a couple of drops at night.

IMG_3007Self-care was something I was so aware of through both of my pregnancies (read more about that here), but somehow I let that go over the past few months, letting myself get overtired and then sick, which isn’t good for anyone. I am so happy to have found some new ways to bring self-care back into my life, it really has made me feel so much better. Self-care is so important at any stage of your life and as moms we often confuse self-care with being selfish and it’s not, in fact it’s the exact opposite. In order to be there for my kids I have to take care of me. It’s not selfish to refill your own cup so that you can pour into others, it’s not just a luxury, it’s essential.

What are some ways that you practice self-care? I would love to hear them!
