Motherhood Never Kept me from Starting, It’s WHY I Started

It’s the five year anniversary of this little blog and I was asked to share my story on a fellow blogger’s page, so I decided that I would share it with all of you too!

Motherhood never kept me from starting, it’s why I started.

Writing has always been a huge part of my life, a way to get ideas out, a way to deal with big changes and a way to share my story. So naturally when I became a mother, writing about this journey was huge for me.

When our first son was born the transition into motherhood was far from easy for me and I found that writing about this gave me a chance to learn more about myself and helped me through some of the tougher stages of motherhood. By writing I was thinking about things and processing them in a different way and to be honest this was incredibly therapeutic for me. The blogging journey kind of just blossomed from there.

The funny thing about pursuing your creative passions is that you inevitably stumble across other people doing the same thing. Once I began writing and posting, I started to meet other mothers who were also pursing their dreams, and many of them were doing this because motherhood inspired them. That’s when I started Josephine’s Creative Career Moms, an outlet of my blog where I interviewed moms who were pursing their dreams and shared their stories. I met so many amazing people through this outlet of my blog (in person) I went out and interviewed them and to be honest it became one of my favourite parts of the blogging journey. This is also something I am hoping to revisit this year again, potentially in a different form (so stay tuned for that).

What I’ve learned is that motherhood really becomes a source of creativity for many women, it brings about so many emotions and changes that completely new ideas start to blossom. For many, the ideas are directly connected to motherhood and the stories I heard were incredible. These women were inspired by their own motherhood journeys to create things from clothing lines to non-profit charities, the very thing that many women fear (motherhood being the end of their professional dreams) actually became their source of creativity and this is such a beautiful thing! For me, the writing process was a kind of therapy, a way for me to process the stages and changes that I went through as I became a mother and the blog kind of grew from there.

The blog has become a huge part of our life (my husband helps out a lot with the images and my sister and mom have always been there to help out along the way too). The funny thing about writing this story though is that I honestly don’t feel like I’m at the end of this creative journey, but rather the beginning. As cheesy as this might sound, the blog is only the beginning and I am so excited for what’s next!

Thank you so much to all of you who have been following along and for the support I’ve received from family and friends over the past five years. Love you all!
